MINUTES

PLAN COMMISSION

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2013

5:30 P.M.

WEST PEORIA CITY HALL

2506 W. ROHMANN AVENUE

WEST PEORIA, ILLINOIS

 

 

   1.   CALL TO ORDER – The meeting was called to order by Mike Swearingen at 5:30 PM.

 

   2.   ROLL CALL – Members present were: Chair Mike Swearingen, Jason Barth, Sue Roos   

         and Amy Furgiuele. Mike Powers, Nancy Carson & Lynn Dempsey were not in attendance.

         Also present: Economic Development Coordinator Gene Pratt and Nick Hayward of the

         Tri-County Planning Commission.

  

   3.   ADDITIONS OR DELETIONS FROM THE AGENDA – None.

           

   4.   APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING – 1/22/2013 – It was moved

         by Amy Furgiuele and seconded by Jason Barth and carried unanimously by voice vote

         to approve the minutes.

 

   5.   NICK HAYWARD/TRI-COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION/UPDATE OF

         COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN – Mr. Hayward spoke about the updating of the

         Comprehensive Plan. He also suggested setting up a Citizens Advisory Committee for

         input through a survey. He stated that the cost of the update is an average of $15,00.00 and

         they are in the process of receiving funds from the State to enable them to complete Plans

         for several communities in the region. He said that some costs will have to come from the

         City, such as; printing costs and postage for the survey. He said the process will likely take

         approximately a year and a half. A discussion followed and Chair Swearingen stated that

         they would wait for the grant before pursuing this.

 

   6.   IDENTIFICATION OF POSSIBLE NEW MEMBERS – Chair Swearingen asked if there

         was a list of people who have already been suggested so they don’t repeat themselves. Mr.

         Pratt stated that several names have been given to the Mayor and the City Clerk ahs

         contacted them but they refused. There was also a discussion of the number of vacant

         properties in the City.

 

   7.   AMENDMENT TO COMPREHENSIVE LAND USE PLAN REGARDING AREA OF

         RECENT ANNEXATIONS – Mr. Pratt stated that this was covered in item # 5.

 

   8.   CITY ADMINISTRATOR/ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR REPORT –

         Mr. Pratt spoke about attending the meetings concerning economic development for a four

         county area. He also spoke about the assets of each county. Amy Furgiuele asked questions

         bout the benefit of Mr. Pratt attending these meetings.

 

   9.   OLD BUSINESS – None.

 

 10.   NEW BUSINESS – None.

 

 11.   OTHER BUSINESS – None.

 

 12.   Public Comment – None.

 

 13.   Determination of Future Agenda – The next meeting will be Tuesday, March 19,

         2013 at 5:30 PM.

 

 14.   Adjournment – 6:08 PM.
