West Peoria Plan Commission

The Plan Commission is excited to pursue redevelopment efforts in the community to encourage economic

growth and an improved quality of life for all residents. In 1994, the City of West Peoria adopted its first

Comprehensive Plan after becoming a city. The job of the Plan Commission is to help guide development

according to the Comprehensive Plan. The Commission periodically reviews the Plan and convenes

monthly to discuss planning issues and review applications for zoning and ordinance changes.

5 Community Goals and Strategies

decided by the Plan Commission,

in collaboration with the

West Peoria Residents' Association

and the City Council

on November 21, 2006:

     1)  Improve communication between the Plan Commission, City Council,

and West Peoria Residents Association. The goal is that the

community leaders of West Peoria will speak with a unified voice and

          present a united front.

     2)  Promote economic development and growth. Actively market West

Peoria, and work to retain and develop West Peoria businesses.

     3)  Investigate how to deal with the unkempt rental properties using building

codes and City ordinance structure. Develop a voluntary program to turn

rental units into owner occupied units.

     4)  Analyze criminal data from Peoria County to assess trends and focal

areas. Make suggestions as to how to respond in order to reduce crime.

     5)  Set high quality Educational Standards for District 150 Schools servicing

West Peoria, especially at Manual High School.
